Stop me if you’ve heard this one before — the feds are looking into making some new trucking regulations.

Below is a roundup of what’s in this week’s trucking news.

HOS restart rollback keeps rolling back: Last year, the two most unpopular parts of the 2013 hours-of-service bill were suspended. The 34-hour restart doesn’t have to include two periods between 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM anymore, and you aren’t limited to one restart per week. Right now there’s a new spending bill that would make it harder for the FMCSA to force you to do that again. (From CCJ)

 

OOIDA sues FMCSA over electronic logs mandate: OOIDA beat an ELD mandate in 2011 by arguing that ELDs could be used to harass drivers. Driver harassment was included in the new version of the ELD mandate, and there’s a new driver coercion rule that fines companies for pressuring drivers to violate HOS rules or other trucking regulations. MC numbers going away? Anyone who’s applying for trucking authority for the first time will now use a new online registration system. The new system and database is expected to eventually get rid of the need for MC numbers, and trucking companies will just stick to DOT numbers. (From Overdrive)
