Women in Trucking August Member of the Month

Laurie Zalac was named August Member of the Month by the Women In Trucking Association. Laurie is the Director of National Accounts for MacroPoint.

Laurie’s introduction to the transportation industry came through her husband. She is married to a 25-year veteran of the highway with over two million accident-free miles. In 2000, he decided to get his own authority. Laurie agreed to support his efforts and learn. With extensive assistance from OOIDA, they started their own trucking company. They quickly decided to add leased owner-operators and in 2002 they had ten trucks.

“Transportation is at the heart of our family. I have been fortunate enough to travel all 50 states – 49 by truck and as soon as the bridge to Hawaii is built, I bet we will be one of the first tractor trailers to cross! I can’t imagine being any more blessed!”

Laurie’s career in the industry brought her to Freight All Kinds (FAK) as a broker agent. From there, she accepted a position with FedEx where she was a two-time President’s Club award winner. “My biggest accomplishment was being chosen as part of the team to ring the closing bell on Wall Street for the 40th Anniversary of FedEx,” she said. “What an exciting time!”

After meeting the owners of MacroPoint, Laurie was completely impressed with the product. Today she supports the transportation industry as the Director of National Accounts for MacroPoint.

“I value every experience I have had and am so thankful to have aligned my experience with MacroPoint as it allows me to support shippers, brokers and carriers by meeting their visibility demands all the while creating a safer driver environment and respecting drivers’ sleep and rest periods. I anticipate that throughout my life, I will continue to support the transportation industry in some form. In addition to my ‘paid’ job, I continue to support disaster relief efforts by volunteering for the Logistics Team at the American Red Cross.”
